What to Put on a Cosmetology Resume

When applying for a new job in the cosmetology field, you will likely have to put together a cosmetology resume when submitting an application.  When looking to put together an application, there are several things that you should put on your resume.

Career Goals

For those that are looking to enter the cosmetology field, or find a new job in the field, listing your objective and goals is very important.  The objective should be located on the very top of your resume and clearly highlight what you are looking for in your next job.  It should state that you are looking for a new position in the industry, why you are seeking this particular position, and what you would bring to any salon that hires you. Convince your employer that you are seeking a long-term position and that it is not simply a short-term move.

Educational Background

When you are putting together your resume, one of the most important things to put on it is your education.  To get a job in the field, you will likely have to have some form of formal training preferably in an accredited school such as Evergreen Beauty College.  Ensure that you include where you went to school, when you graduated, and what your specialties are.  You should also highlight any successes that you had, including your grade point average, any awards you received, or anything else that would set you apart from some of the other applicants.  Beyond your formal education, it is important to put what other recurring education courses you have completed over your past few years.

Experience

Beyond your education, you should also put your experience on your resume.  When putting together your education section of your resume, make sure you put down anything that is relevant to the field.  If you are new to the field and have just finished your education, highlight all the practice that you have had working on clients during school.  If you have had some experience in the past,  list the salons that you worked on, the years that you worked there, and the services that you provided.  If you had developed a strong client list, include it as well.

References

Most importantly, you should list your references on your resume.  These should be a list of former employees and colleagues that could provide you with a positive referral.  Having a mix of references from college and previous positions would be a good idea.
