I was on the phone with the Department of Licensing yesterday inquiring on the status of the new proposed rules for the Master Esthetics License. The manager told me that the rules should be coming out shortly and am excited to see the guidelines.
There have been a number of Estheticians that have shared that they are in the process for signing up for their grandfathering classes to ensure that they get their Masters Esthetics license. They said that there are trainers and medical spas that are already taking deposits for classes. My question to these Estheticians; how are the assured that you will get credit towards the new license when the state hasn’t issued guidelines? The state hasn’t issued the rules, forms or requirement of what these classes will cover to confirm certification. I personally have received solicitation materials from vendors and trainers claiming that there program will meet the requirements. My question: How are you so certain when you don’t have rules to reference?
I’ve been to a number of the hearings, spoke with state officials and gave input on the rules, and feel fairly confident in how the rules will roll out. But it isn’t until rules are issued that you have certainty. My suggestion: Estheticians, you should wait to put down any deposits or sign up for any classes until the rules come out. I’m not suggesting that all these vendors and medical spas are misleading, but I would say they are overly anxious.
I know that for our college that will have training programs to support Estheticians to get grandfathered, but won’t be rolling those out until we can cross check it with rules.
