Cosmetology Student Success Story: Daisy Sanchez

About Daisy Sanchez

Some people go to college. Daisy Sanchez conquered it. At Eastern Washington University, she did not just show up and take classes. She double-majored in Criminal Justice and Spanish. She tried out for the Hip Hop Dance Team, the Folclórico Dance Team, and the Pacific Islander Dance Team, and made all three. She led MECHA Club. She played soccer. She modeled for the EWU Eagles Store. She worked a part-time job on the side. And through all of it, every semester, she passed her classes and kept moving forward. By the time she graduated in 2023 with her Bachelor’s degree, she had built a college experience that most people would not believe if you described it to them. She will laugh when you bring it up and admit she still is not entirely sure how she managed it all. But that is Daisy. When she decides to be somewhere, she is fully, completely, impossibly there.

Coming home to Yakima after graduation, she stepped into a Criminal Justice career and gave it everything she had. But there is a difference between being good at something and being called to it, and Daisy started to feel that gap. She had grown up in a family that did not believe in settling, a family that pushed each other to reach for more and build something of their own. The more she sat with that, the more one dream kept rising to the surface: beauty. Hair. A chair of her own. Something she had carried since she was young, but had tucked away. Not anymore.

So she brought it to the people who know her best. Her mom listened, and her response was everything. She told Daisy she would be in her corner every single step of the way. That if this was her calling, to go for it with everything she had, trust God, and let him lead the way. Her siblings showed up for her too. “I wouldn’t have done it without them,” Daisy says, and she means it completely. With her family firmly behind her, she quit her job, signed up for a tour at EBC, and on July 7, 2025, she walked through the doors of EBC’s Yakima campus and started becoming who she was always meant to be.

The Evergreen Experience

Ask Daisy what her favorite service is and she will light up, because the honest answer is all of them. She genuinely loves every service she gets to learn and has no interest in limiting herself to just one. She wants to be the stylist who can do it all, and she means that. But if you truly forced her hand? Women’s layered haircuts paired with a full voluminous blowout. The combo is her signature. “The women that have been in my chair and get that combo have walked out of the salon feeling confident, and more beautiful,” she says. For Daisy, clients are not just the job. They are the whole point. “Clients are my PRIORITY. If I’m not making them feel better than how they walked in, then I’m not doing my job.”

Haircut + Blowout by Daisy

Some of her strongest technical growth came through a friendship she will never stop being grateful for. A friend who graduated about six months into Daisy’s program took the time to show her exactly how to cut layers properly and perfect a voluminous blowout. “If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have learned her ways and tips,” Daisy says. “I am forever thankful for her and our friendship that grew out of cosmetology school.” That kind of generosity sticks with you. Daisy carries it into every appointment.

And those appointments? They are an experience. Daisy sets up her iPad so clients can pick whatever show or movie they want to watch. She brings snacks. She creates a space where people feel completely at ease from the moment they sit down. “I want my clients to have an elegant, luxurious, relaxing experience,” she says, “because they deserve that and more.”

On her very first tour of EBC, Daisy was shown two walls. The Student Ambassador wall at the front entrance, and the Wall of Fame in the back, earned by reaching 100 request clients. She looked at both and made herself a quiet promise: “Daisy, you’re going to be on those two walls. Just wait.” Three months into the program, she was accepted into the Student Ambassador program. And this week, she is hitting her 100th request client and earning her spot on the Wall of Fame. Both walls. Just like she said. “If you set your mind to bigger things, your mind will believe it and so will you, and you WILL GET THERE.”

The Next Step

After graduation, Daisy’s first move is clear: take her state boards and pass them. What comes after that? She is keeping it close. “As for where I will end up, it’s for you to wait and follow me on social media because it will be a surprise.” She is trusting where she is being led, and she is not worried. The path has a way of revealing itself to someone who shows up the way Daisy does.

Her advice to anyone thinking about enrolling is full of the same conviction she has lived by: “Don’t be discouraged from your past, or from anything holding you back. If you feel like you are called to be here, GO FOR IT.” She has walked that road herself, from a Bachelor’s degree to a Criminal Justice career to a cosmetology chair in Yakima, and she would not change a single step.
